(Extract from Tai Kwong Po (†) Hong Kong 9th Feb.1927) Letter from wu Shik (A) to To Chi Hang (5)

Dear Chi Hang, (4/12 (3)

I am sending you a copy of the report on the Boxer

Indemnity, and I hope you will have the first 29 pages published. Pages 12 to 29 treat of a great variety of subjects and are the most unsatisfactory part. Pages 54

to 60 deal with the many forms of procedure followed. Specialists will be very interested in them, but they do

not affect the main conclusions.

On pages 28 and 29 you will find a description of "The object to which attention should be directed". we keep this in view as our premise, we shall be able to

solve all our other difficulties.

Charitable ladies have been wont to favour

If

Christian Schools, but in the end they will find that they

must admit that the Chinese themselves are ultimɛtely

responsible for the conduct and management of their own

education. Page 29 states the proper rule to be followed.

The draft amendment has been correctly drawn up,

but it is a pity that too many important proposals have

been accumulated to be dealt with at the present meeting,

and that we cannot manage to get them all passed until the

meeting in February.

I have lectured in various universities for a

month. I have been to nine universities and worked to death

almost.

I am making haste to complete my studies in the

British Museum, so that I can take my voyage home via

America. I shall be in Peking in about two months.

With kind wishes to all my friends,

Shik Chi()
